100+ Nations Stand Against Politicizing Human Rights at UN

In a significant display of global unity, over 100 countries voiced their support for the Chinese mainland's stance against the politicization of human rights issues during the Third Committee of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

China's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Fu Cong, firmly rejected the accusations made by a few Western nations regarding its human rights record. He emphasized that the most pressing human rights concern at the meeting is the situation in Gaza.

Highlighting the collective support, Pakistan delivered a joint statement on behalf of 80 countries, asserting that issues related to Xinjiang and Xizang are internal affairs of the Chinese mainland. They condemned any interference under the guise of human rights and affirmed the importance of respecting each nation's right to choose its development path.

Additionally, over 20 countries expressed their opposition to the politicization of human rights and the application of double standards, either individually or collectively. Ambassador Fu also represented 28 countries in a joint statement denouncing unilateral coercive measures by some Western nations, calling for their immediate cancellation as they violate the UN Charter and international law.

The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly plays a crucial role in addressing human rights and social development issues. Since 2019, efforts by the US and other Western countries to use human rights as a tool against the Chinese mainland have been largely unsuccessful, with the majority of the international community standing in solidarity against such political manipulation.
