BRICS Expands to 10 Members, Amplifying Global South Influence

The BRICS nations now represent approximately 45 percent of the world’s population and account for 16 percent of global trade. Originally consisting of four of the world’s fastest-growing emerging economies—Brazil, Russia, India, and China—South Africa joined the bloc two years later. This year, BRICS doubled its membership to ten countries, with nearly three dozen more nations, including Cuba, expressing interest in joining.

The expansion underscores the growing influence of the Global South in international affairs. BRICS aims to promote peace, security, development, and cooperation among its members, fostering stronger ties and collaborative efforts to address global challenges.
