Jordan Condemns Israeli Settlers’ Assault on Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound

Jordan has strongly condemned \"the storming\" of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by extremist settlers, who were under the protection of Israeli forces, earlier this Sunday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates declared that this act constitutes a blatant breach of international law, undermining the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites. It also violates Israel's obligations as \"the occupying power,\" according to an official statement.

Sufian Qudah, spokesperson for the ministry, emphasized that Israel must immediately halt all ongoing violations and breaches pertaining to the status quo in Jerusalem and its sacred sites. He called for an end to the imposition of new realities at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Regarding Israel's ongoing attacks against Gaza and Lebanon, and escalations in the West Bank, Qudah warned that Israel's unilateral actions risk escalating tensions further, potentially pushing the entire region towards catastrophe.

The spokesperson urged for \"clear and firm\" international positions and measures to condemn and halt these violations, and to provide necessary protection for the Palestinian people.

He reiterated that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and stated that the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, through the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, holds the sole legal authority responsible for managing all affairs of the mosque and its surrounding areas.
