Kenyan President Ruto Nominates Kithure Kindiki as New Deputy

In a pivotal move, Kenya’s President William Ruto has nominated Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki as his new deputy president. This announcement was made by Parliament Speaker Moses Wetang'ula on Friday, following the Senate's decision to impeach the previous deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

The impeachment of Gachagua was driven by five out of eleven charges, including gross constitutional violations such as threatening judges and practicing ethnically divisive politics. Although he was cleared of corruption and money-laundering charges, Gachagua denied all allegations, calling them \"nonsensical\" and \"outrageous.\" His failure to testify at the impeachment trial, due to hospitalization, expedited his removal from office.

With the nomination of Kindiki, Parliament now has 60 days to vote on Ruto’s choice to fill the vacant deputy president position. This development marks a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape, as the nation seeks stability and continued leadership amidst recent turmoil.
