On October 16, the world commemorates World Food Day, an initiative launched in 1945 by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issues of global hunger and food security.
For decades, efforts spearheaded by the FAO have led to notable progress in reducing food scarcity and improving nutritional outcomes across various regions. Advancements in agricultural practices, enhanced food distribution systems, and international collaborations have all played a part in combating hunger.
However, recent years have witnessed a troubling increase in global hunger rates. Economic downturns, climate-related challenges, and ongoing conflicts have all contributed to this surge, reversing some of the hard-earned gains in food security.
Ediz Tiyansan explores the factors behind this uptick and discusses the urgent measures needed to address food insecurity on a global scale.
