Late on Tuesday, a devastating oil tanker explosion in Jigawa state, northern Nigeria, claimed the lives of at least 94 people, with 50 others injured. The tragedy unfolded in Majia town, within the Taura local government area, approximately 530 kilometers north of the capital, Abuja.
According to Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the catastrophic crash.
Local residents had gathered in Majia to collect fuel from the tanker when the accident occurred, resulting in the high casualty numbers. Those injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals in Ringim and Hadejia towns, where they are receiving medical care.
