Building a Common Home: Chinese Premier Li Qiang Pushes for Enhanced SCO Cooperation
In a move aimed at fostering regional stability and prosperity, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for deepening and expanding cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Member States held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Highlighting the SCO's role as a vital platform for maintaining peace and promoting development among member countries, Li referenced the Astana Summit where key leaders, including Chinese leader Xi Jinping, agreed on the vision of a \\"common home\\" characterized by solidarity, mutual trust, peace, and prosperity.
Premier Li outlined four key proposals to strengthen SCO cooperation:
- Strengthen Strategic Alignment: Formulate a development strategy for the next decade, create cooperation roadmaps, enhance communication, and build mutual trust through dialogue.
- Expand Practical Cooperation: Deepen efforts in poverty reduction, digital economy, green development, facilitate regional trade and investment, and promote the establishment of the SCO Development Bank.
- Focus on Major Risks: Enhance joint actions to combat threats to the security of member states and accelerate the development of the Anti-Drug Center.
- Expand People-to-People Exchanges: Utilize the SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation to build digital education alliances and promote events fostering friendship.
The meeting's participants emphasized the importance of implementing the Astana Summit's outcomes, strengthening the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, and promoting regional peace and prosperity through multilateral cooperation.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang concluded the meeting by signing a joint communique with participating SCO leaders, further solidifying the commitment to the organization's development and regional cooperation.
