In a significant move towards promoting peace in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to easing regional conflicts during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s role as a responsible major country dedicated to fostering stability in the region. He highlighted the importance of dialogue and consultation in resolving hotspot issues, opposing the escalation of tensions and military interventions.
During their conversation, both ministers lauded the strong China-Iran relations and underscored their dedication to maintaining exchanges at all levels. They discussed the potential for enhancing practical cooperation to address the ongoing conflicts.
Araghchi expressed Iran’s deep concern over the risk of an overall escalation in the regional situation, noting the desire to prevent further expansion of conflicts. He acknowledged China’s influential role in international affairs and conveyed Iran’s willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with China to cool down tensions through diplomatic means. Araghchi also called on Israel to proceed cautiously and avoid taking unnecessary risks.
Wang Yi pointed out that the negative impacts of the Gaza crisis are spreading, leading to escalating regional tensions. He reiterated China’s consistent stance on resolving conflicts through peaceful means and urged all parties to increase their efforts to safeguard regional peace and stability.
Furthermore, Wang expressed China’s support for the historic reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia. He encouraged the second meeting of the China-Iran-Saudi Arabia Trilateral Joint Committee to build on the momentum of reconciliation and inject positive energy into regional peace and stability.
By fostering stronger communication and building a broader international consensus, China aims to pool the strengths of all parties involved to promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Middle East conflicts.
