The United States announced on Friday the imposition of sanctions targeting Iran's energy trade in response to the ballistic missile attack launched against Israel on October 1.
According to a statement from the Department of State, six entities involved in Iranian petroleum trade have been sanctioned, and six vessels have been designated as blocked property.
Additionally, the Department of the Treasury is taking action that will result in sanctions against any individuals operating within Iran's petroleum or petrochemical sectors. The Treasury is also sanctioning ten entities and identifying 17 vessels as blocked property for their roles in shipping Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products, supporting U.S.-designated entities such as the National Iranian Oil Company and Triliance Petrochemical Co. Limited.
U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that these measures aim to further restrict Iran's financial resources used to support its missile programs and terrorist groups that pose threats to the United States, its allies, and partners.
