On December 19, 2025, the Hong Kong Fire Services Department held an official funeral with full honors for Senior Fireman Ho Wai-ho, the 37-year-old firefighter who lost his life extinguishing a devastating blaze in Tai Po last month.
Posthumously promoted to Senior Fireman after nine years of service, Ho was laid to rest in a moving ceremony attended by hundreds of his colleagues, community members and officials of the Hong Kong region. The event featured a guard of honor, a moment of silence and a final salute as his flag-draped coffin was carried to the graveside.
The funeral comes as residents of Tai Po begin restoration efforts on buildings damaged by the November fire, a grassroots response that underscores the city’s resilience. Volunteers and city crews have joined forces to clear debris and shore up structures, symbolizing a fresh start for the neighborhood.
Ho Wai-ho joined the Fire Services Department in January 2016, dedicating nine years to frontline rescue work. His sacrifice has prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media, where residents and colleagues praised his bravery and commitment to public safety.
As Hong Kong rebuilds, Ho’s legacy continues to inspire the Fire Services Department and those who benefit from his service, reminding the city of the human courage behind every uniform.
