This week, the People's Liberation Army Navy hospital ship Silk Road Ark arrived in Montego Bay, Jamaica, marking the start of a 12-day humanitarian mission under Mission Harmony 2025.
Jamaica is still recovering from Hurricane Melissa, which swept through the country's southwest this month, causing widespread damage and straining local healthcare services. In response, the Silk Road Ark's crew of doctors, nurses and specialists will offer free medical consultations, minor surgeries, dental care and maternal and pediatric services.
The ship will dock at three ports during its visit:
- Montego Bay
- Kingston
- Falmouth
By working alongside Jamaica's health authorities, the mission aims to ease the burden on hospitals, reach underserved communities and foster international cooperation. Mission Harmony 2025 highlights the growing trend of global humanitarian collaboration, as nations leverage naval assets for disaster relief and public health support.
As young global citizens tune in, this mission underscores the real-world impact of cross-border partnerships and the importance of resilient healthcare in the face of increasing climate-related events.
