Hong Kong Fire Aid: 1,900 Relocated as Recovery Efforts Ramp Up

As of December 5, 2025, the HKSAR government reports that 1,900 residents have been relocated following the fire at the Wang Fuk Court housing complex in Tai Po.

Post-fire recovery efforts at the complex are still underway. To ensure affected families have access to safe shelter and essential services, the government established the Emergency Accommodation Working Group. This support group is providing free temporary housing and transportation for residents as they prepare to rebuild their homes.

Residents have moved into community centers and designated accommodations, with shuttle services linking them to key city areas. The working group coordinates case management to understand individual needs and streamline assistance, demonstrating a people-centered approach to disaster response.

This initiative highlights the importance of rapid, organized action in dense urban centers. As global cities navigate increasing climate and safety challenges, Hong Kong’s model offers valuable insights for young changemakers, urban planners and communities on the front lines of crisis recovery.
