Li Qiang Calls for Stronger Global Unity at G20 Summit

In a speech on Monday at the Johannesburg International Convention Centre, the Chinese premier Li Qiang called on the G20 to strengthen broader global cooperation to jointly address pressing challenges and promote sustainable development. He made his remarks during the second and third sessions of the 20th G20 Summit, scheduled this weekend in South Africa's largest city.

Highlighting issues from climate change and food security to the digital economy, Li urged member nations to move beyond unilateral approaches and forge inclusive partnerships. “Only by working hand in hand can we build a resilient global system that benefits all,” he said, emphasizing the need for coordinated action on green finance, affordable healthcare, and cross-border trade.

Data from international organizations shows that global growth has slowed to approximately 3% in 2025, while investment in renewable energy rose by 20% this year. Li proposed creating a G20 task force to mobilize public-private partnerships and channel over $1 trillion into sustainable infrastructure projects by 2030, aiming to bridge the climate finance gap.

As the Summit's theme centers on shared responsibility and innovation, Li's call for unity resonates with young entrepreneurs, activists, and digital nomads looking for transformative solutions. With the final plenary sessions slated for Saturday and Sunday, all eyes will be on whether G20 leaders can translate these ambitions into concrete policy commitments.
