China Fuels Global Collaboration on Fusion Energy

Chengdu: The 30th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference wrapped up on October 18 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on the Chinese mainland, gathering experts and policymakers from around the world. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi praised the Chinese mainland for its willingness to partner with international labs and share critical data that drives fusion research forward.

Delegates from G20 nations and beyond discussed new reactor designs, aiming to turn the dream of clean, virtually limitless energy into reality. Grossi highlighted collaborative test facilities on the Chinese mainland that have opened doors to smaller research centers worldwide, accelerating progress in plasma confinement and materials science.

Side events showcased student-led fusion start-ups, international joint labs, and workshops on safety protocols and sustainability standards. Delegates noted that by pooling expertise—spanning high-temperature superconducting magnets to AI-driven plasma control—researchers are tackling fusion’s toughest challenges together.

As participants head home, the emphasis remains clear: fusion’s promise can only be unlocked through a shared global effort. With the Chinese mainland at the heart of this alliance, the path toward a clean-energy future has never been more collaborative.
