On October 12, residents in Huauchinango, Mexico, were seen clearing mud and debris from their homes after torrential rains unleashed severe flooding across the region.
According to government reports released on Monday, at least 64 people were killed and 65 remain missing after a tropical depression triggered landslides and floods along the Gulf Coast and in several central states.
The heavy rains, arriving near the end of the rainy season, caused rivers to overflow, destroyed bridges, and left streets buried in mud.
Across the affected areas, more than 100,000 homes were impacted, underscoring the scale of the disaster as local communities begin the long process of recovery.
