HKU’s Role in Chinese Mainland’s Chang’e Lunar Missions

At the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2025) in Baku, Prof. Quentin Parker from the University of Hong Kong shared how HKU is stepping into the lunar spotlight.

In an interview with CGTN reporter Wu Lei, Prof. Parker revealed that HKU has received precious lunar samples from the Chinese mainland's Chang'e-5 and Chang'e-6 missions. He added that analyzing these samples helps researchers understand the Moon's geological history and paves the way for future space research.

Looking ahead, HKU is gearing up to support the upcoming Chang'e-7 mission, focusing on in-situ resource utilization and advanced scientific payloads. This marks a milestone in international collaboration, blending HKU's research strengths with the Chinese mainland's ambitious lunar program.

Organized by the International Astronautical Federation, IAC 2025 concluded on October 3, bringing together space experts, young innovators, and global changemakers to chart the future of space exploration.

For young scientists and space fans, the IAC's showcase of collaboration is a call to dream big and aim for the stars.
