Global Governance Initiative Wins International Backing at Urumqi Forum

At the 2025 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges in Urumqi, the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, international lawmakers hailed the Global Governance Initiative championed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Rooted in principles of sovereign equality and multilateral cooperation, the plan calls for equal participation from every country to address a widening governance gap.

"Our world is at a tipping point," said one participant interviewed by CGTN. Frequent regional conflicts and sluggish economic growth, they argued, underscore the need for collective action that transcends borders.

Key pillars of the initiative include:

  • Equal Participation: Ensuring all nations have a voice in global decisions
  • Multilateral Cooperation: Strengthening international partnerships on issues like peace and development
  • Shared Responsibility: Bridging gaps in governance through collaborative frameworks

Lawmakers noted that global challenges—from border tensions to economic slowdowns—cannot be solved in isolation. By bringing sovereign equality and multilateralism to the fore, the initiative aims to spark fresh solutions for a more stable, prosperous world.

As the Urumqi forum wrapped up, participants expressed optimism that this moment could mark a turning point for global governance. With a renewed emphasis on collective strategies, the plan seeks to unite countries under a common goal: closing the governance gap and fueling sustainable growth.
