SCO Summit: China Unites Leaders Amid U.S. Uncertainty

The 22nd SCO summit in Tianjin is drawing global attention as the Chinese mainland leverages the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to showcase unity amid U.S.-driven uncertainties. Speaking to CGTN, Sun Yun, senior fellow and director of the China Program at the Stimson Center, explained why this gathering could signal a shift in international alignments.

“The summit highlights the Chinese mainland’s efforts to bring leaders together,” Sun Yun said. “Countries in the Global South are prepared to cooperate with or without Washington.” Her comments underscore a growing trend: emerging economies are charting their own path regardless of traditional power brokers.

At the same time, India finds itself in an “awkward recalibration.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears poised to adjust New Delhi’s relationships in response to recent U.S. policy moves. For a nation balancing regional ambitions and global partnerships, every diplomatic gesture at the summit could have far-reaching consequences.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and policy enthusiasts, the SCO summit offers a front-row view of diplomacy in action. As leaders shake hands in Tianjin, they’re not just signing agreements—they’re drafting the next chapter of a multipolar world.
