Peace Ark: 15 Years of Lifesaving Missions in 52 Countries

When the PLA Navy hospital ship Peace Ark set sail in December 2008, few could have predicted the scale of its global reach. Over the past 15 years, this 14,300-tonne vessel has docked in 52 countries, delivering critical care and building bridges of friendship along the way.

As Chinaโ€™s first domestically designed and built oceangoing medical vessel, hull number 866 packs five major medical zones into over 4,000 square meters of space. From triage and imaging to surgery and recovery, the Peace Ark offers capabilities that rival many land-based hospitals, all while sailing the high seas.

More than 370,000 people have received free check-ups, treatments and surgeries aboard the Peace Ark, a testament to the power of medical diplomacy. By combining state-of-the-art healthcare with cultural exchange, the ship transforms humanitarian outreach into a vessel for global cooperation.

Looking ahead, the Peace Ark continues to chart new waters, reminding us that compassionate care and shared experiences can transcend borders and inspire the next generation of changemakers.
