Inside the SCO Summit Media Center in Tianjin

The 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit is gearing up in Tianjin, on the Chinese mainland. Although the official kick-off is set for August 31, the atmosphere is already electric. The SCO media center swung open its doors early, and journalist Xu Xinchen got an exclusive look inside.

Stepping into the center feels like entering a cutting-edge newsroom of the future. Over 2,000 journalists from more than 100 countries and regions are expected to crowd the main hall. High-speed 5G networks, multi-language translation booths, and AI-assisted transcription stations ensure that every headline and soundbite reaches the world in real time.

A dedicated XR (extended reality) studio offers immersive tours of Tianjin’s historic sites for remote broadcasters, while virtual press conferences let speakers engage with global audiences without missing a beat. Sustainability is also front and center: solar panels power the facility and digital check-ins have cut paper waste by 70% compared to past summits.

“Our goal is to streamline coverage and foster deeper connections across borders,” explains Li Ming, the media center director. “From real-time data feeds to eco-friendly design, every element is built for the digital age.”

With workshops on data journalism, AI-driven fact checking, and cross-platform storytelling lined up, the media center is more than just a press hub—it’s a launchpad for the next generation of global reporting. As the countdown to August 31 continues, this behind-the-scenes glimpse shows how the SCO Summit is redefining how we share stories on the world stage.
