Germany, France Boost China-EU Strategic Ties

Last week, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi wrapped up landmark visits to Germany and France, marking a new chapter in China-EU strategic cooperation. The Chinese Foreign Ministry hailed these trips as timely efforts to deepen ties with two core EU members who are steering the bloc toward strategic autonomy.

In Berlin, Wang Yi and his German counterparts discussed the need to build an objective, rational perception of the Chinese mainland, address economic and trade frictions, and unlock new avenues for collaboration—particularly in clean energy, digital infrastructure, and tech innovation. As Europe’s industrial powerhouse, Germany emerged as a key partner in strengthening supply chain resilience and advancing joint research initiatives.

Moving on to Paris, the minister highlighted France’s role in championing balanced global governance. He and French officials agreed on boosting economic dialogue, supporting people-to-people exchanges, and driving sustainable development projects. France’s pursuit of strategic autonomy within the EU resonates with Beijing’s vision of a multipolar world order where diverse voices shape international policies.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry statement applauded Germany and France for guiding the EU toward greater independence, promoting fair trade practices, and cultivating a nuanced approach to bilateral relations. By jointly managing disputes and building on shared interests, China and the EU—anchored by these two core members—can tackle global challenges ranging from climate action to digital transformation.

Looking ahead, this strengthened partnership opens new pathways for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and young global citizens to collaborate across borders. From startups exploring European markets to students engaging in cultural exchanges, deeper ties with Germany and France promise to drive innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
