Catastrophic floods have devastated central Texas, claiming at least 82 lives and leaving communities reeling. The surging waters of the Guadalupe River swept through towns and overran Camp Mystic, a 99-year-old summer camp on the riverbank.
CMG reporter Liu Xu visited the mud-choked grounds at Camp Mystic, where dozens of girls are still missing after the deluge hit overnight. Tents, cabins and trails that once buzzed with laughter now lie buried under debris.
Volunteer rescuer Alvi Santos warns that chainsaws and shovels aren't enough to clear the rubble quickly. 'We need more tools to save lives,' he says, highlighting a growing shortage of critical equipment for search and rescue teams.
With every hour counting in the race to find survivors, volunteers and first responders are calling for urgent support. Additional gear could make the difference between hope and heartbreak for families waiting for news.
