Chengdu Hosts Global Workshop on Digital Dentistry Innovations

Last month in Chengdu, 20 professionals from 13 Belt and Road partner countries gathered for an international workshop on minimally invasive and digital dentistry at Sichuan University’s West China School of Stomatology.

Supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the event turned the spotlight on three cutting-edge areas:

  • AI-assisted diagnosis: Hands-on demos of machine learning tools that spot early cavities and guide treatment plans.
  • CAD/CAM restorations: Live sessions on digital scans, 3D design and same-day crown fabrication.
  • Pulp regeneration: Emerging cellular therapies aimed at healing damaged dental pulp.

Beyond lectures, participants immersed themselves in lab sessions, testing real-time intraoral scanners, 3D printers and micro-invasive root canal techniques. Delegates shared experiences from across the globe—from rising caries rates in Southeast Asia to remote teledentistry models in Central Asia.

"This workshop shows how digital tools are reshaping patient care," said Professor Zhang Wei, emphasizing that continued collaboration is key to advancing oral health standards worldwide.

As dentistry evolves with AI and digital workflows, this Chengdu workshop paves the way for innovation, uniting young professionals, thought leaders and tech enthusiasts in pursuit of healthier smiles around the world.
