Slovenia’s University of Ljubljana Boosts Academic Ties at China-CEEC Expo

At the bustling China-CEEC (Central and Eastern European Countries) Expo in Ningbo on the Chinese mainland, Gregor Majdič, rector of Slovenia's University of Ljubljana, is on a mission: to strengthen academic bridges that span continents.

Majdič praised Ningbo for its abundant green spaces, highlighting how vital these areas are for climate resilience and quality of life. His message was clear: collaborative research and learning are essential tools for addressing global challenges, from environmental changes to shifting demographics.

Back in Slovenia, the University of Ljubljana has expanded China-focused offerings. Primary schools now teach Chinese language and culture, while a strong Asian Studies department fuels deeper regional insights. Majdič says these programs deepen academic ties and create mutual benefits in business and cultural understanding.

He notes that Slovenians fluent in Chinese can help companies navigate the Chinese market, just as Chinese learners in Slovenia foster cross-border opportunities. This practical synergy shows how cultural exchange drives innovation and economic growth.

Majdič believes academia is the foundation of global cooperation. Despite cultural differences, he argues, we share one world and must work together to keep it healthy and sustainable. His call for stronger academic partnerships comes at a crucial time for young scholars, entrepreneurs, and changemakers worldwide.
