On a crisp afternoon in New York City, hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters took to the streets to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba. The Nakba refers to the mass expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes, towns and villages in 1948 following the creation of the state of Israel.
Carrying banners and chanting slogans about justice and human rights, demonstrators wove through Manhattan and nearby neighborhoods, drawing attention to a modern chapter of the conflict. Since 2023, the Israeli army has carried out a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, resulting in a death toll of at least 53,010 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Participants stressed how remembrance of past displacement connects directly to present suffering in Gaza. Voices at the rally urged global citizens and policymakers to confront the human cost behind the headlines and to demand accountability.
As the march concluded, organizers emphasized that honoring history is a call to action. Many young activists said they hoped these moments of solidarity would spark informed dialogue and inspire impactful change on both local and international stages.
