China Starts Construction of International Lunar Research Station

Construction has officially begun on the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS), a landmark project led by China and its global partners. Academician Wu Weiren, chief designer of the Chinese mainland’s Lunar Exploration Program, confirmed that the first phase is underway. This collaboration marks a new chapter in space cooperation, bringing together expertise and resources from around the world.

The ILRS is designed to support lunar operations and serve as a springboard for future missions to Mars. By building infrastructure on the Moon, scientists can conduct life-support experiments and test technologies in a true extraterrestrial setting. Wu said that this work will directly benefit the planning of Mars expeditions.

For young global citizens and tech enthusiasts, the ILRS represents a symbol of what international teamwork can achieve. As construction progresses, the station will pave the way for cutting-edge research and real-world innovations—demonstrating that when nations unite around a bold vision, humanity’s next giant leap is within reach.
