Georgian MP Highlights 60% Trade Surge with the Chinese Mainland

In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Zhang Meng, Georgian MP Irakli Mezurnishvili, first deputy chairman of the Parliament Committee for Economy, detailed the remarkable progress in bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the Chinese mainland. Since solidifying the strategic partnership in July 2023, trade between the two regions has surged by 60% over the past five years, positioning Georgia as a key transit hub on trade routes across the Middle Corridor.

The Free Trade Agreement has unlocked opportunities for Georgian specialty products—including renowned wines, agricultural goods, and minerals—to enter the vast market of the Chinese mainland. At the same time, growing demand for advanced products such as electric vehicles, solar panels, and high-tech equipment highlights the mutual benefits of this flourishing economic relationship.

Looking ahead, Mezurnishvili emphasized Georgia’s ambition to deepen collaboration in renewable energy, infrastructure development, and logistics. With modernization initiatives underway such as the development of the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port, along with a 2023 visa exemption agreement that has fostered closer cultural and educational exchanges, the partnership promises dynamic growth and innovation on multiple fronts.

This forward-looking vision not only bolsters economic ties but also reinforces cultural and people-to-people connections, resonating with young global citizens, tech enthusiasts, thought leaders, and changemakers eager to witness and participate in transformative international cooperation.
