China to Host Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality

In a significant move towards advancing gender equality, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has announced that China will convene a Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Beijing later this year. This initiative marks a pivotal moment, commemorating thirty years since Beijing hosted the Fourth World Conference on Women, where women worldwide united in their pursuit of equal rights.

Over the past three decades, there has been substantial progress in gender equality and the empowerment of women. However, the journey is far from complete. In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Tian Wei, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed emphasized that while achievements have been made, there remains a significant path ahead to ensure true equality.

Minister Wang highlighted the importance of this upcoming meeting, stating, "This gathering will bring together leaders from around the world to share insights, strategies, and commitments to continue the fight for gender equality." The meeting aims to address persistent challenges and explore innovative solutions to empower women across diverse sectors.

As the global community reflects on the progress made since the Fourth World Conference on Women, this new meeting in Beijing stands as a testament to the ongoing dedication to fostering an inclusive and equitable world for all.
