China’s DeepSeek Sparks Global Tech Race Debate

China's artificial intelligence breakthrough DeepSeek has ignited heated comparisons to the 1957 'Sputnik moment,' but experts warn against Cold War-era thinking in today's interconnected tech landscape. Western analysts have drawn parallels between the AI system's advancements and the geopolitical shockwaves caused by the Soviet Union's first satellite launch.

Angela Li, chair of the LSE China Development Forum, challenges this narrative in a recent interview with CGTN. 'Global supply chains and collaborative research networks make today's tech ecosystem fundamentally different from Cold War competition,' Li explained. 'While healthy rivalry drives innovation, cooperation remains critical for tackling challenges like algorithmic bias and AI governance.'

The debate comes as multinational corporations increasingly partner with Chinese tech firms on next-gen AI applications. Recent data shows over 60% of Silicon Valley startups now collaborate with Asian developers through open-source platforms.

Li emphasized: 'Rather than recreating spheres of influence, we need frameworks ensuring mutual benefit. The real race should be toward ethical standards and workforce adaptation strategies that serve humanity globally.'
