In Beijing’s latest diplomatic exchange, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded strongly to the recent visit of Masaaki Kanai, director general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asia and Oceania bureau, to the Chinese mainland.
Spokesperson Mao Ning urged Japan to reflect on and correct its mistake immediately. She demanded the retraction of provocative remarks on Taiwan and warned against creating further tensions in China-related issues. Mao noted that stern representations have already been lodged over Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous comments concerning Taiwan.
Answering questions about Kanai's visit, Mao Ning said any updates would be released immediately, underscoring the ministry's commitment to transparency in diplomatic exchanges.
She also expressed deep concern over a recent surge in crimes targeting Chinese citizens and highlighted extreme and threatening online remarks from Japanese right-wing provocateurs against Chinese diplomats. Mao described alerts and advisories issued by relevant authorities as entirely reasonable to protect citizens and envoys.
This diplomatic exchange underscores the delicate balance in Sino-Japanese relations. As two major economies navigate complex regional issues, observers and global entrepreneurs will be watching closely to see if Japan heeds Beijing’s call and eases bilateral tensions.
