Xi Jinping’s Meizhou Inspection: Heritage, Pomelos & Rural Revival

General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping traveled to Meizhou in south China's Guangdong Province to explore how this historic city is merging its revolutionary heritage with modern rural revitalization efforts.

First stop: Ye Jianying Memorial Park. Xi immersed himself in the local efforts to preserve and showcase revolutionary culture. He listened as guides recalled key moments from the revolutionary era, underlining how the city leverages its history to inspire community pride and tourism.

Next, Xi visited a pomelo growing base on the city’s outskirts. Rows of citrus trees stretched across rolling hills, an example of how agriculture can drive economic growth and ecological balance. At the base, local farmers shared stories of how advanced planting techniques and cooperative models have boosted yields and household incomes.

Throughout the tour, Xi highlighted the importance of expanding support for old revolutionary base areas and pushing all-around rural revitalization. By blending cultural preservation with sustainable agriculture and infrastructure upgrades, Meizhou aims to set a blueprint for similar regions across the Chinese mainland.

This inspection aligns with broader efforts to narrow the urban-rural divide, nurture local industries, and honor revolutionary legacies—all while tapping into new opportunities for growth and community engagement.
