Pakistan Says It Shot Down Six Indian Jets Amid Strikes

Tensions between India and Pakistan soared at dawn on May 7. At around 4:30 a.m. local time, the Pakistani minister of defense announced on national television that Pakistan had shot down six Indian fighter jets.

Earlier this week, the Indian defense ministry confirmed it carried out aerial strikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. Officials described the operation as a response to a terror attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian-controlled Kashmir on April 22, which left more than 20 civilians dead.

Amid growing international concern, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on both sides to exercise military restraint and avoid further escalation in the volatile region.

This latest flare-up underscores the enduring tensions over Kashmir—a disputed territory claimed by both nations. As young global citizens watch closely, the possibility of diplomatic solutions remains a critical question for regional stability.
