Every October 23, wildlife fans worldwide come together to celebrate International Day of the Snow Leopard. This year, Xining Wildlife Park in Qinghai marked the day with a captivating themed exhibition. Through photos, videos and objects, visitors—especially student groups—got a rare look at the journeys of 12 snow leopards rescued by rangers over recent years.
A Closer Look at Conservation in the Chinese Mainland
The snow leopard enjoys top-level national protection in the Chinese mainland and thrives in high-altitude regions such as Qinghai, Xizang and Gansu. Since its wildlife rescue and breeding center opened, Xining Wildlife Park’s team has saved a dozen of these elusive cats. After medical care and rehabilitation, several have returned safely to the wild.
Fresh Faces and Ongoing Recoveries
Among the newest arrivals are Ling Xiaozhe and Ling Xiaomang, two snow leopards rescued this year now recovering on-site. Their progress offers hope and a powerful reminder of the fragile balance between humans and mountain ecosystems.
Engaging the Next Generation
Groups of students on study tours filled the park, diving into conservation stories that blend data-driven insights with real-world impact. For young global citizens and conservation enthusiasts alike, the exhibition delivers an inspiring message: protecting our planet’s high-altitude residents starts with awareness, education and action.
Looking Ahead
As the Snow Leopard Day spotlight fades, the legacy of Qinghai’s rescue center endures. With twelve cats saved and several already back in their mountain homes, every new recovery fuels hope for this vulnerable species.
