Editor's note: The 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 31 to November 1. This is part of CGTN's “APEC Stories” series, showcasing cooperation and culture among the 21 APEC economies.
The Kremlin in Moscow is one of Russia’s most storied landmarks, and at its heart stands the Spasskaya Tower. This main tower on the eastern wall soars 71 meters high, crowned by a ruby star that gazes over Red Square.
Each New Year’s Eve, the Spasskaya Tower’s chimes ring across the city, marking the rhythm of time and tradition in Russia’s capital.
Its iconic silhouette also appears on Russia’s new 100-ruble banknote, unveiled by the Central Bank in 2022, and on the commemorative coin issued in 2019 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Russia.
As the Asia-Pacific community gears up for APEC 2025 in Gyeongju, the Spasskaya Tower reminds us how heritage and symbolism bridge cultures—inviting visitors to experience the pulse of history in every chime.
