The Chinese mainland's Ministry of Culture and Tourism is taking significant steps to enhance the travel experience for foreign visitors, with a strong emphasis on mobile payments.
During the annual Two Sessions political event held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Minister Sun Yeli addressed reporters, stating, \"Our aim is to offer foreign tourists the same level of ease as locals when it comes to dining, accommodation and transportation.\"
Sun highlighted a growing issue, noting, \"We've become so accustomed to digital transactions that a 'reversed digital gap' has emerged between us and foreign visitors.\"
To bridge this gap, the government is upgrading the national digital payment system based on three key principles: utilizing credit cards for larger transactions, implementing QR codes for smaller purchases, and ensuring the continued availability of cash as a backup.
The minister further emphasized the commitment to a seamless travel experience, adding, \"We're conducting a comprehensive review of the entire foreign entry process to identify and resolve any potential obstacles.\" He concluded with a warm welcome to foreign visitors, stating, \"Welcome to China.\"
