Harbin Shines Bright: $800M Earned from Festive New Year Tourism

Harbin, located in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has emerged as a winter wonderland powerhouse, earning nearly 6 billion yuan (US$838 million) from tourism during the three-day New Year holiday.

Known for its stunning ice and snow sculptures, Harbin has captivated millions with a blend of breathtaking winter art, diverse sports events, and vibrant entertainment. The city's warm hospitality has further solidified its status as one of China's top tourist destinations this winter season.

According to Tongcheng Travel, one of China's largest online travel platforms, Harbin Ice and Snow World topped the list of most popular destinations nationwide during the New Year festivities. Central Street, a renowned attraction in Harbin, welcomed nearly 3 million visitors over the holiday period. Additionally, the city saw the sale of 100,000 bars of its iconic Modern ice cream, reflecting the local charm and festive spirit.

Beyond the ice sculptures and bustling streets, other attractions like the Siberian Tiger Park, Harbin Polarland, Songhua River Ice and Snow Carnival, and the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo also drew significant crowds, contributing to the remarkable tourism revenue.

Harbin's success this New Year highlights the city's unique ability to blend natural beauty with cultural and recreational activities, making it a must-visit destination for winter enthusiasts and travelers seeking memorable experiences.
