The Bingling Temple Grottoes, a renowned cultural heritage site located in Yongjing County, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province on the Chinese mainland, have been temporarily closed to the public following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake struck earlier in Jishishan County, approximately 80 kilometers away from the grottoes.
Local authorities have reported that the grottoes themselves have not sustained any damage. However, comprehensive inspections and assessments are currently underway to ensure the site's safety for visitors.
The Bingling Temple Grottoes were carved into the cliffs on the north bank of the Yellow River during the early years of the Western Jin Dynasty (265-317). The site features 183 niches that house a total of 694 stone-carved statues, 82 clay sculptures, and approximately 900 square meters of intricate murals, reflecting the rich cultural and historical significance of the region.
