Unlocking Han Dynasty Secrets: Marquis of Haihun’s Tomb Now Open

The main tomb of the Marquis of Haihun – Liu He, located in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, has been open to the public since December 15, adding a fascinating new chapter to the rich stories of the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD). As the grandson of Emperor Wu, Liu He lived during one of the most prosperous periods in Chinese history.

Visitors can now explore a treasure trove of ancient artifacts unearthed from the tomb, including gold items, bronze relics, iron tools, jade objects, lacquerware, ceramics, textiles, and bamboo slips. These priceless discoveries offer a unique glimpse into the daily life and craftsmanship of the Han Dynasty elite.

Previously, the main tomb of Liu He was highly protected, allowing only limited views of the rammed earth foundations of ceremonial buildings and peripheral structures like wells, roads, and drainage systems. The recent opening grants the public unprecedented access to the tomb's original appearance, enhanced by archaeological restorations and digital reinterpretations that bring historical scenes to life.

Through this restoration, visitors can witness the grandeur of the Han Dynasty and gain a deeper understanding of the era's cultural and historical significance. The Marquis of Haihun's tomb not only preserves the legacy of a key historical figure but also serves as a bridge connecting modern audiences with ancient heritage.
