Longbaotan Wetlands Thrive as Black-necked Cranes Population Soars in Qinghai

Sitting at an altitude of over 4,000 meters, the Longbaotan Wetlands in Yushu City, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, is one of the four wetlands listed as a Wetland of International Importance in northwest China's Qinghai Province. It covers a total area of 9,529 hectares, and over one-third of the land is wetland.

In Tibetan, \"longbao\" refers to a place with fish and birds. The Longbaotan Wetlands indeed provides food and habitat for migratory birds and endemic fish. It is an important breeding ground for black-necked cranes. The bird's population has increased from 22 in 1984 to over 200 now.
