Hainan Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary of Giant Pandas Gong Gong and Shun Shun

Hainan Island marked a significant milestone on November 25 with a vibrant celebration at the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden in Haikou. The event commemorated the fifth anniversary of the beloved giant pandas, Gong Gong and Shun Shun, who have been enchanting visitors since their arrival.

Gong Gong and Shun Shun, both born in Ya'an, Sichuan Province, in 2013, made their debut in Haikou on November 25, 2018. Their arrival ended a five-year absence of giant pandas on the island, bringing joy to locals and tourists alike. During the celebration, the pandas enjoyed a feast of fresh bamboo and assorted fruits, highlighting their favorite treats.

The presence of these charismatic creatures has not only boosted local tourism but also raised awareness about wildlife conservation efforts in the region. Hainan continues to be a sanctuary for these gentle giants, fostering a connection between humans and one of nature’s most treasured animals.
