Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken a bold step towards decarbonizing its public transport network by awarding six contracts for 660 new electric buses. This order includes 360 single-deck and 300 double-deck vehicles, set to roll out from late-2026. It marks the first large-scale purchase of electric double-deck buses in the city-state.
In November 2025, the LTA also launched a tender to install electric-vehicle charging systems across bus depots and key transport hubs. These infrastructure upgrades will ensure the new fleet can recharge efficiently, supporting Singapore’s target of having electric buses make up half of its public fleet by 2030.
Looking ahead, Singapore aims for a fully cleaner-energy public bus fleet by 2040. To accelerate this transition, the LTA will introduce two support schemes starting January 1, 2026:
- Zero-Emission Heavy Vehicle Grant: Tailored incentives for owners of zero-tailpipe-emission heavy vehicles.
- Charging Network Expansion: Funding to build and upgrade charging points for electric heavy vehicles over the next three years.
These measures reflect a broader push for sustainable mobility in Asia and beyond. For digital nomads and eco-conscious travelers, cleaner buses mean greener city tours. Tech entrepreneurs and investors can spot opportunities in smart charging networks, fleet-management software, and next-generation battery solutions.
By phasing out aging diesel buses and backing electric mobility, Singapore is not only cutting emissions but also laying the groundwork for a smarter, more connected urban future. Keep an eye on this electrifying transformation—it could inspire other global cities to follow suit.
