On December 12, 2025, Google unveiled a beta feature that brings real-time translation directly to your headphones via the Google Translate app. This update aims to break down language barriers by preserving speakers’ tone, emphasis and cadence, making conversations more natural and immersive.
To use Live Translate, open the Google Translate app, tap Live Translate, and plug in your headphones. Whether you’re traveling abroad, attending a virtual conference, or watching foreign-language media, you’ll hear instant translations in your preferred language, all without missing the speaker’s original inflections.
Currently available on Android devices in the United States, Mexico and India, the beta supports more than 70 languages and works with any headphone. Google plans to roll out Live Translate on iOS and expand to more countries in 2026, aiming to serve a global community of language learners, entrepreneurs and digital nomads.
Imagine navigating Mexico City’s bustling markets and chatting with vendors in Spanish, or tuning into a lecture in Hindi while staying home. Live Translate can turn those scenarios into reality, helping young global citizens connect across cultures one conversation at a time. Which language will you try first?
