Intel’s New CEO Calls for Brutal Honesty to Spark Innovation

In a bold pivot for the iconic chipmaker, Intel’s new CEO Lip-Bu Tan is rewriting the playbook by urging customers to provide unfiltered, honest feedback. Speaking at the company’s "Vision" event in Las Vegas, Tan emphasized that harsh, straightforward feedback is key to driving the change needed to restore Intel’s dominance.

Once a leader with more than a 90 percent market share in personal computers and data center servers, Intel has seen its ties loosen as rivals like Nvidia have surged ahead. Tan detailed how his first weeks on the job have involved extensive dialogues with customers, revealing that the company has not met their high expectations.

Determined to rekindle the spark of innovation, Tan outlined plans to streamline internal processes by trimming a sluggish middle management layer. "We're going to really drive some new ideas, giving engineers freedom to innovate from within," he remarked, underscoring his new focus on empowering engineers to bring fresh ideas to life.

His strategy centers on recruiting and retaining top engineering talent, acknowledging that a significant loss of expertise in recent times has weighed on Intel’s progress. With his weekends reportedly filled with meetings with engineers and architects, Tan is poised to create an environment where creative ideas can flourish and help revitalize Intel’s competitive edge on the global stage.
