WHO Reports 2,000 Wounded Amid Conflict in DRC’s Goma

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarms over the escalating conflict in Goma, a pivotal city in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). As clashes intensify, over 2,000 individuals have been reported wounded, and 45 lives have been lost across three health zones in North Kivu.

\"There are reports of 2,029 wounded in health facilities and other points of care, and 45 dead across three health zones in North Kivu,\" the UN health agency stated, highlighting the urgent need for medical assistance and humanitarian support in the region.

Beyond the immediate casualties, the ongoing violence has triggered large-scale displacement, creating a fertile ground for the spread of infectious diseases such as mpox, cholera, and measles. The displacement not only strains local resources but also hampers efforts to contain potential outbreaks, posing a significant threat to public health in the area.

As the international community watches closely, the WHO emphasizes the importance of addressing both the humanitarian and health crises to mitigate long-term impacts on the affected populations.
