OpenAI has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence model, Sora, to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, marking a significant expansion into multimodal AI technologies.
The Microsoft-backed company, which sparked a generative AI revolution with the introduction of ChatGPT in November 2022, is now competing with similar text-to-video tools from Meta, Google, and Stability AI. Sora, initially introduced in February, was previously accessible only to safety testers during its research preview phase. It is now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers as Sora Turbo at no additional cost.
Users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, lasting up to 20 seconds, and choose from widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios. This new feature aims to provide a seamless video creation experience directly within the ChatGPT platform.
While Sora is currently unavailable in the EU, Switzerland, and the UK, it will be accessible in other regions where ChatGPT is supported. OpenAI has emphasized its commitment to preventing misuse of the technology by blocking the creation and upload of harmful content, including child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes. Initially, uploads of people will be restricted, with plans to expand this feature as deepfake mitigation strategies are refined.
\"We're working on tailored pricing for different types of users, which we plan to make available early next year,\" OpenAI stated in a recent blog post, highlighting its ongoing efforts to enhance and responsibly deploy its AI innovations.
