China's first independently developed and built ultra-deepwater gas field, Shenhai Yihao, also known as Deep Sea No. 1, has achieved remarkable milestones in its production journey. Since commencing operations on June 25, 2021, Shenhai Yihao has amassed an impressive natural gas output exceeding 9 billion cubic meters and an oil output surpassing 900,000 cubic meters.
Located just 150 kilometers from Sanya in Hainan province, Shenhai Yihao operates at depths exceeding 1,500 meters, making it the deepest gas field of its kind in China. This strategic positioning not only enhances its operational capabilities but also underscores its significance in bolstering the nation's energy infrastructure.
The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is set to elevate the gas field's production further with its Phase II project. Once fully operational, this upgrade is projected to increase Shenhai Yihao's peak annual natural gas output from 3 billion to 4.5 billion cubic meters. This expansion is pivotal for China's energy security, ensuring a stable and substantial supply to meet growing demands.
The Phase II initiative is comprehensive, encompassing proven natural gas reserves of over 50 billion cubic meters. Key developments include the installation of 12 deepwater gas wells, a robust processing platform weighing over 14,000 tonnes, and the construction of five submarine pipelines stretching approximately 250 kilometers.
Shenhai Yihao's achievements reflect China's commitment to advancing its energy capabilities and harnessing deepwater resources. As the gas field continues to expand and optimize its output, it stands as a cornerstone in the nation's pursuit of sustainable and secure energy solutions.
