China is witnessing a significant surge in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) services, with more than 600 million registered users, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Zhao Zhiguo, chief engineer at the MIIT, emphasized the rapid expansion of the nation's core AI industry. Currently, over 4,500 companies are actively operating within this sector, driving innovation and technological advancement.
The MIIT highlighted that nearly 200 generative AI service models are now registered and accessible to the public. Zhao stressed the importance of bolstering AI infrastructure to support public services, advocating for the creation of accessible, adaptable, and highly available AI development platforms. This approach aims to accelerate the training, optimization, and large-scale application of AI models.
In addition to infrastructure enhancements, efforts are underway to strengthen the supply capability of computing power facilities and build a unified national computing system. Zhao underscored that increasing the share of intelligent computing resources is crucial for the sustained growth of China's AI landscape.
On the same day, China Mobile, in collaboration with the China Electronics Standardization Institute and 16 key enterprises, launched an evaluation standard for general AI large models. This standard provides a reference for companies to select high-quality AI models, driven by actual demands from key industries.
The evaluation focuses on six dimensions: functionality, accuracy, reliability, safety, interactivity, and applicability. These criteria comprehensively assess the core competencies in the application of large AI models across various industry scenarios, including telecommunications, transportation, energy, and manufacturing.
