The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has made headlines by setting a new traffic record during China's seven-day National Day holiday. This impressive feat marks the first long holiday since the passage was opened on June 30.
Connecting Shenzhen and Zhongshan in Guangdong Province, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link spans approximately 24 kilometers and serves as a critical transportation backbone for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This cross-sea passage has significantly enhanced connectivity, reducing travel time between the two cities from two hours to just 30 minutes.
On October 1, the link saw a total of 155,000 vehicles passing through, achieving a record high. To manage the surge in traffic and ensure smooth travel, over 170 personnel from road administration, monitoring, rescue, and maintenance departments were deployed. Additionally, more than 100 traffic police officers from Shenzhen and Zhongshan, along with nearly 100 special operation vehicles, were stationed along the route.
Since its inauguration, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has played a pivotal role in integrating the Greater Bay Area, with daily traffic volumes surpassing 100,000 vehicles within the first 72 hours of operation. This milestone accounts for a quarter of the daily traffic across the Pearl River, highlighting the link's importance in regional transportation.
As a core infrastructure project, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link not only boosts economic integration but also enhances the ease of travel for residents and visitors alike, reinforcing the region's status as a dynamic and interconnected hub.
