Shanghai Kicks Off Global Design Conference to Drive Urban Innovation

Shanghai is the bustling host of the World Design Cities Conference (WDCC) 2024, which began on Friday. Organized by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and UNESCO, the event runs until Monday under the theme \"Design Reframing Growth.\"

The conference aims to create a global platform for design collaboration, exploring how design can drive quality productive development and integrate into every facet of urban and daily life.

At the opening ceremony, Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group, emphasized Shanghai's crucial role in advancing Chinese modernization. He highlighted the city's dedication to embedding design concepts into urban development and enhancing the design industry's impact by blending global perspectives with local characteristics, illustrating Shanghai as a modern socialist international metropolis.

Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, outlined the city's commitment to leveraging design's comprehensive value and diverse functions. He stressed the importance of cultivating new quality productive forces through design, empowering industrial innovation, and integrating design deeply into urban renewal, public services, and cultural development. Gong also noted Shanghai's focus on building a people-oriented city and fostering high-level openness through design as a tool for global communication.

The WDCC 2024 promises to accelerate Shanghai's journey toward becoming a world-class design city, showcasing the transformative power of design in shaping the future of urban living.
