China’s Shenhai Yihao Deepwater Gas Field Now Operational

China has taken a significant leap in its energy sector with the operational launch of Shenhai Yihao, also known as Deep Sea No. 1. Located in the deep waters southeast of Hainan, the southernmost island province of China, this marks the country's first independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field.

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the operator of the project, highlighted that this milestone underscores China's ability to harness oil and gas resources under some of the most challenging conditions globally. Phase II of Shenhai Yihao boasts a proven reserve of over 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with a peak annual output exceeding 1.5 billion cubic meters.

The ambitious project encompasses 12 deepwater gas wells, a comprehensive processing platform weighing more than 14,000 tonnes, and five submarine pipelines stretching approximately 250 kilometers. These state-of-the-art facilities are a testament to China's advancing technological prowess in the energy sector.

As the global demand for natural gas continues to rise, Shenhai Yihao positions China as a formidable player in the international energy market, ensuring energy security and contributing to the nation's economic growth.
